Lead Magnet Quiz for Coaches: Qualify Prospects Before the Discovery Call

Lead Magnet Quiz for Coaches: Qualify Prospects Before the Discovery Call

Most coaching lead magnets are built to collect an email address. A checklist, a PDF guide, a five-day challenge. The reader trades their address for the download, and you learn almost nothing about who they are or whether you can help them.

A scored quiz works differently. It gives the reader a result that’s genuinely about them, and it tells you who they are before you ever get on a call. That makes a lead magnet quiz for coaches less of a marketing gimmick and more of a first, lightweight intake. The real subject here is qualifying leads. The software is just how you get there.

The problem with discovery calls you know nothing about

Every coach has had the call that went nowhere. The person was curious, kind and completely wrong for the work you do. Maybe they needed a different kind of help. Maybe they weren’t ready to invest. Either way, you both spent 30 minutes finding out something a few good questions could have revealed in advance.

A good discovery call depends on context. When you already know a prospect’s biggest challenge, their situation and how urgent it feels, you can skip the warm-up and talk about what matters to them. You also get a fair way to decide which conversations deserve a call at all.

We couldn’t find solid research putting a number on how much pre-qualifying improves close rates, so we won’t pretend there is one. The case rests on common sense. Better information going into a conversation tends to produce a better conversation.

Why a quiz qualifies leads better than a PDF

A PDF is a one-way exchange. A quiz is a short conversation. Every answer tells you something, and the score sorts people into groups you can respond to differently.

Quizzes also seem to hold attention. Interact, a company that sells quiz software, reports in its 2026 quiz conversion report that 44.9% of people who start a coaching or course quiz end up giving their contact information. Treat that number with care. It’s vendor data, and Interact itself calls its figures observational benchmarks, not the results of a controlled experiment. Still, it suggests people are willing to answer questions when the result feels personal.

We’ve written before about creating a free assessment for your coaching website and the value it gives visitors. This post looks at the other side of that exchange: what the quiz tells you.

What makes a good qualifying question

The questions matter more than the tool. A quiz full of personality fluff gives you a fun result and no useful information. Strong qualifying questions usually cover a few areas.

  • The situation. Their role, stage of business or career moment. This tells you whether they’re in the group you serve.
  • The main challenge. Offer answer choices that match the problems you actually solve, plus an “other” option.
  • What they’ve tried. Someone who has already worked through books and courses is often closer to wanting a coach.
  • Urgency. Is this a someday issue or a this-quarter issue?

Keep every question focused on goals and work. Don’t ask about health, mental health history or anything a client would normally only share with a clinician. That information isn’t yours to collect in a marketing form, and it doesn’t belong in a lead list.

A closer look at Lead Magnet Agent

Building a scored quiz by hand takes real work. You have to write the questions, decide the scoring logic, write a result for each score range and connect it all to your website. Lead Magnet Agent is one of several tools that try to do most of that for you. It’s also one of the tools listed on Chris Lema’s site. Chris Lema is CEO of MotivationCode, Coach Factory’s parent company. We have no financial stake in these tools.

A quick note on how we reviewed it. Everything below comes from the tool’s public website and pricing page. We haven’t tested the quality of the quizzes it writes, and that’s the thing you’ll want to judge for yourself.

What it produces

You answer eight questions about your business, including what you do, who you help and what problems you solve. The tool then generates a quiz on a topic suited to your audience, with its own questions and scoring logic. Each person who takes the quiz gets a scored worksheet tailored to their answers. The idea is that the reader walks away with something useful, not just a label.

On your side, you get a code snippet to embed the quiz on your site (WordPress, Webflow, Squarespace and plain HTML are listed) and a lead dashboard showing each person’s details, score and sign-up time. Leads can be exported as a CSV file to bring into your email platform or CRM. The site doesn’t name any direct integrations, so plan on moving leads over by export.

What it costs

According to its pricing page, there are three plans.

PlanPriceLead magnetsLeads per monthSeats
Free$01501
Pro$29/month55003
Business$79/month105,00010

The homepage says “Free plan available. No credit card required,” though you do need to create an account. One detail to check before you commit is that the pricing page lists CSV export only on the paid plans. If moving leads out of the dashboard matters to you, confirm what the free plan allows before you build your list there.

Who might be better served by something else

An honest review should say who a tool isn’t for. A few kinds of coaches may want to look elsewhere.

  • Coaches who enjoy building things themselves. Tally’s free plan includes unlimited forms and submissions (within its fair use policy), plus conditional logic and calculations. You can build scoring yourself and connect it to tools like Google Sheets or Zapier. You’ll write every question and result, but you won’t hit a cap.
  • Coaches who want a dedicated scorecard platform. ScoreApp is built around scorecards. Its free plan allows one live scorecard and up to 10 responses a month, and its Starter plan is $39 a month on monthly billing.
  • Coaches who want an established quiz builder. Interact offers a free plan with two quizzes and up to 100 leads a month, but no integrations. Its Lite plan is $27 a month, billed annually.
  • Coaches who need a privacy policy to review first. We didn’t find a privacy policy or terms linked from Lead Magnet Agent’s homepage. If your clients or your own standards require reviewing a vendor’s data practices, ask before you embed it.

On paper, Lead Magnet Agent’s free tier allows more leads than ScoreApp’s free tier, and its Pro plan costs less than ScoreApp’s Starter plan. Its main selling point is speed. If writing the quiz yourself is the reason you haven’t made one, that’s worth something. If you already know exactly what you want to ask, a free form builder may be all you need.

A quiz collects personal information, so treat it with the same care as any other sign-up form. Tell people plainly that you’ll email them, and give them a real choice about it. If you send marketing emails to your quiz leads in the U.S., the FTC’s CAN-SPAM guidance requires a clear way to opt out, honored within 10 business days, and a physical postal address in your messages. If your leads include people in the EU, GDPR expects consent to be given through a clear affirmative action, and pre-ticked boxes don’t count. None of this is legal advice, but it’s the baseline to know.

And review whatever the tool writes before it goes live. An AI-generated quiz is a draft. The questions should sound like you, reflect the problems you actually solve and stay well clear of anything clinical.

Where a quiz fits in your practice

A quiz isn’t a strategy on its own. It works best as the first step in a simple path. Someone finds your content, takes the quiz, gets a useful result and joins your list. From there, your email marketing carries the relationship forward, and the people whose answers fit your work get a personal invitation to talk. If you want to see how those pieces connect, our guide to sales funnels for coaches lays out the full sequence.

Whichever tool you choose, the payoff is the same. You walk into each discovery call already knowing who you’re talking to and what they hope will change. That frees you to spend the call on the person instead of the paperwork.
